A 43-year-old woman from a village of Drochia district was handed over to the police after two villagers denounced her, saying that she had offered them money to vote against an election candidate, IPN reports.

The General Police Inspectorate said that the money, 4,300 lei in total, was proposed to a 68-year-old man and his wife.

Following the complaint, the police searched the home of the 43-year-old woman, from where they seized 24,000 lei and lists of people paid to vote against an election contender. The woman was detained.

Under the law, people who offer money to influence the results of an election risk one year to five years in prison and a fine of over 50,000 lei. For people who agree to sell their vote, the fine is 25,000 to 37,500 lei. If the persons denounce the crime and cooperate with the investigative bodies, they are exempt from the fine.
