37 judges appointed and 19 judges dismissed in 2019

In the course of last year, 37 judges were named to posts at the suggestion of the Superior Council of Magistracy, for a five-year term. Nineteen judges were discharged. Also, 13 judges were punished disciplinarily, shows the report for 2019 approved by the Superior Council of Magistracy on April 16, IPN reports.

The Council last year examined three applications from the prosecutor general by which he asked for consent for taking legal action against two judges. The suspension of a judge from the post was requested by another application. The Council accepted all the four applications. The cases referred to influence peddling, unjust enrichment, inference in justice and in investigations and money laundering.

The priorities set by the Council for this year include the continuation of the initiated projects, institutional consolidation, enhancement of efficiency and effectiveness of its role of guarantor of the independence of the judiciary bodies, identification and regulation of instruments for analyzing the quality of the legal system and ensuring of a balanced climate during the procedures for choosing the future judges.
