Three young men, aged between 19 and 21, have been placed in pretrial detention for 30 days, accused of being involved in a scam that defrauded four elderly women in Chisinau. Under the pretext that their relatives had caused traffic accidents and needed money to avoid punishment, the suspects managed to obtain a total of 300,000 lei from the four victims, IPN reports.
Following investigations, law enforcement officers managed to recover $7,000 and 19,000 lei, which will be returned to the victims.
According to the law, those involved in such crimes face a prison sentence of 7 to 10 years. The investigation continues under the coordination of prosecutors from Ciocana to establish all circumstances and identify possible accomplices.
The police urge citizens to remain vigilant and not fall victim to such schemes. In case of suspicion, people are advised to contact emergency services at 112 immediately.
