27 members of the Ialoveni district branch of Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) announce they leave the formation and return to the Democratic Party (PDM). The statement was made Tuesday, January 27, at a news conference by Daniel Tonu, the head of the Ialoveni branch, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“PLDM is a real battlefield for top positions. We convinced ourselves that this party is based only on group interests,” Daniel Tonu said. According to him, a democratic political party should propose the improvement of the state of things in the country, to defend the citizens' interests, not to limit itself to making profits.
“We're confident our leaving the party will be followed by other actions of this kind. We are aware that our opinions in this regard are shared by very many PLDM members, but they have not decided to leave it because of different reasons of personal security or other causes,” Tonu said.
He says he has always pleaded that the PLDM joins other democratic parties, but the leadership of the party headed by Vlad Filat has shown no interest. “I was dear and good for them when I constituted the largest PLDM organization from the country. The Ialoveni branch has 1,120 members. However I used to be the inconvenient man in this party, because my proposals, remarks were disliked by the leadership of the party,” Daniel Tonu said. He claims he does not fight for positions, but for the society's well-being.
The signatories of the statement on leaving the PLDM say they decided to return to the PDM, after almost one year, claiming this party would have become more transparent meanwhile, and because they did not find the understanding they wanted in the PLDM.
When asked by Info-Prim Neo, PLDM president Vlad Filat has stated that Daniel Tonu had all the necessary tools to influence the party's work, but the reasons invoked by him are not relevant. “It's his decision and I am sorry he did not rise up to be competent. The PLDM is a live party. The people finding themselves in this party remain, the ones who don't – leave,” added the PLDM leader.
