In the 30 polling stations set up for citizens eligible to vote from localities situated on the left bank of the Nistru, 6,600 voters cast their ballots by 1:00 p.m., IPN reports.
Central Election Commission head Angelica Caraman said that over 700,000 citizens exercised their right to vote throughout the country by 1:00 p.m. The voter turnout at that hour was 25.5%.
“The citizens receive two ballots, and the members of the electoral office are obliged to provide the ballots to each citizen, guiding them where to sign in the electoral list,” stated Angelica Caraman.
Over 67,000 electors voted at the polling stations established outside the country. All polling stations established in Europe and Asia are operational so far. By 02:00 p.m., another 22 polling stations in the United States and Canada will open.
By 1:00 p.m., the police documented about 20 electoral incidents. These relate to the photographing of ballot papers, damaging of the ballot paper, campaigning, organized transportation of voters and cases of reasonable suspicion of voter corruption.
For the October 20 election, 30 polling stations were opened in 21 localities situated on the right bank of the Nistru River and in Dubăsari district. Citizens residing in the administrative-territorial units located on the left bank of the Nistru and in the municipality of Bender are expected to exercise their right to vote there.
It is estimated that there are almost 300,000 citizens with the right to vote in the Transnistrian region. They cannot be included in the voter rolls because the authorities of the Republic of Moldova do not control this territory and, respectively, do not open polling stations in the region. At the elections, they are put on supplementary electoral lists.
