Four men, aged between 33 and 42, were stopped for checks at the entrance to the village of Palanca after Border Police officers received operative information. Five sacks and a metal wheelbarrow filled with fish of various species weighing a total of 255 kilograms were found in the trunk of their car, IPN reports.

Border Police informs that the persons in the car could not produce documents proving the origin of the fish. The driver said he had bought the fish from an unknown person near the Dniester River.

The batch of fish is to be sent to the National Agency for Food Safety for further checks and the border police are continuing investigations to establish all the circumstances.

The authorities also say that the transportation and marketing of animal products must comply with the legislation in force.
