Over years, Moldova was regarded in different ways from outside, Moldova’s Ambassador to Germany Aureliu Ciocoi has told IPN in the context of the anniversary of 22 years of the proclamation of the country’s independence. “In general, this period favored Moldova’s development,” sad the ambassador.

According to the diplomat, the middle of the 1990s was a less favorable period. The country was then governed by the Agrarian Democratic Party, which did nothing but pushed the country towards stagnation. This period was lost for Moldova, but there cold have been done many nice things for the country and the people.

“The stagnation led to drawbacks that we haven’t yet removed. The unfinished reform in the justice sector is the most serious shortcoming. Unfortunately, the justice system in our country cannot be described as independent and impartial. This hinders a lot the extension of the foreign investment flows to Moldova. No serious investor comes because there are no guarantees that the investments in Moldova’s economy will be secured at judicial level,” said Aureliu Ciocoi.

According to him, a turning point in the history of the young Moldova was the protests of 2009, after which the country switched from stagnation to a republic that is now going through a period of accelerated development. Even if the ordinary people do not yet feel the effects of this development, Moldova improved its image abroad after the April 2009 events.

Aureliu Ciocoi said a country’s welfare is directly proportional to the welfare of every person. Thus, everyone must become active so as to improve the own welfare and, consequently, the welfare of the whole country. In order to become eligible for joining the European Union, Moldova must implement a series of reforms that will enable it to enter the EU very proudly.
