2020 National Awards winners named

The Government on Wednesday approved the list of individual and collective winners of the 2020 National Awards, which come with a cash prize of 100,000 lei for each awardee.

This year, most awards, six in total, went to doctors in recognition of their work and dedication in the fight against Covid-19. Among the collective winners are the team of the Chisinau Covid-19 Center, the team of the Buiucani Territorial Medical Association, the team of the Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases “Toma Ciorbă”.

The Awards are going to Doctor of Medicine Adrian Belîi, head of the Intensive Care Department at the Institute of Emergency Medicine; Doctor of Medicine Mihail Ciocanu, Doctor of Medicine Ion Mereuță, Doctor of Biology Vladimir Carauș, Doctor of Biology Tudor Strutinschi, Doctor of Medicine Tiberiu Holban, Doctor of Medicine Victor Pântea, Doctor of Medicine Gheorghe Plăcintă, Doctor of Medicine Galina Rusu, Doctor of Medicine Ludmila Bîrcă, and Doctor of Medicine Liviu Iarovoi. The general director of the CSK Grup Plus company Serghei Cicalchin, and general director of Maurt company Aurel Morar have also been awarded.

University professor Constantin Gaindric is awarded for outstanding achievements in mathematics and informatics.

Composer Anatolie Chiriac is awarded for his valuable contribution to the development of national musical art. Painter Andrei Mudrea is taking the Award for the promotion of national culture. The poet and columnist Ion Hadârcă and actor Boris Bechet are awarded for lifetime achievements. Classic wrestling coach Mihail Cucul is awarded for promoting Olympic values.

Director of photography Serghei Babară, costume designer Lilia Ixari, sound designer Marin Turea, composer Valeriu Cașcaval, and actresses Rodica Ixari, Cornelia Suveică, Eugenia Butnaru and Margareta Nazarchevici are taking the National Award for their “extremely talented and truthful rendition of important historical events” in the docudrama “Siberia on Bones”.

The Awards ceremony will take place as part of Independence Day manifestations at the end of August.
