Twenty prosecutors will deal with bad treatment in medical institutions within a project financed by the European Union. These attended training and consultancy courses during almost a year. The prosecutors will use a guidebook for investigating bad treatment, IPN reports.

The EU-funded project “Strengthening National Capacities to Protect the Most Vulnerable from Torture in Moldova”, aims to contribute to the prevention of torture and fighting against impunity on the whole territory of the Republic of Moldova, especially in respect of the most vulnerable women and men with psychosocial and intellectual disabilities in mental health facilities.

In Moldova, the investigation of complaints about use of torture is within the exclusive competence of prosecutors. Though the methodology and recommendations concerning the investigation of torture for prosecutors are in force and are used, these do not cover the complaints about torture in medical institutions, in particular in psychiatric hospitals.
