A national air monitoring network will be created in Moldova and will include 18 automatic stations and one mobile station. Eleven of them will be purchased with the European Union’s assistance, IPN reports.

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved a bill on the monitoring and management of atmospheric air quality. "These are essential regulations, which will contribute to the consolidation of the national air quality monitoring system, being based on two key components," said Minister of Environment Sergiu Lazarencu.

According to the official, the purpose of this document is to create an integrated system for monitoring and managing air quality with the main objective of reducing air pollutant emissions.

"The protection of air quality, thus contributing to improving public health and to a cleaner environment, is the major benefit of this initiative,” stated Sergiu Lazarencu.
