Representatives of the Cabinet and the City Hall, politicians and people of culture on January 15 laid flowers at the bust of poet Mihai Eminescu at the Alley of Classics in the central park of Chisinau on the occasion of the 171th anniversary of the bard’s birth, IPN reports.

Deputy mayor of Chisinau Angela Kutasevich said that Mihai Eminescu is the last Romantic who left his masterworks to posterity. “Since children we learn and sing the verses of Eminescu and then love in the style of Eminescu and learn the realities of life through his works. Eminescu is our greatest poet. He is a source of inspiration for those who love literature and the mother tongue,” she stated.

Acting Prime Minister Aureliu Ciocoi transmitted a message on the occasion of the National Day of Culture that is celebrated the same day. “The people of culture are the envoys of beauty. They are those who offer us refuge when we are overwhelmed by daily concerns. Owing to what they do in performance halls, workshops, exhibition areas, the name of the Republic of Moldova is known abroad. This year more than ever, we appreciate your abnegation, enthusiasm to create, power to do more and to find inspiration. On this day, we express our gratitude to all the actors, singers, musicians, librarians, museographers, writers, plastic artists, specialists in the field of culture who, regardless of the challenges of 2020, managed to bring culture to our souls and homes,” says Aureliu Ciocoi’s message.

A number of cultural events are staged on the occasion of the National Day of Culture.
