As many as 166 private individuals in 2007 earned incomes of over 1 million lei, according to the statements submitted to the State Main Tax Inspectorate. 63 persons reported incomes of over 1 million lei in 2006, Info-Prim Neo reports. Galina Spac, the head of the Inspectorate’s direct taxes division, told a news conference that the number of persons that earned between 500,000 and 1 million lei last year increased to 101, in contrast to 45 in 2006. Incomes of 250,000-500,000 lei were earned by 329 persons, as against 217 in 2006, while of 100,000-250,000 lei – by 2,700 persons, as opposed to 1,700 in 2006. According to Galina Spac, the private individuals-taxpayers become more disciplined. A number of 72,400 income statements were presented in 2007, in contrast to 70,100 in 2006. The volume of income taxes paid by individuals rose to 1.32 billion lei, as against 1.12 billion lei in 2006. Salaries made up 87% of the incomes made by private individuals, as against 95% in 2006. Incomes earned from capital increase made up 6.6% of the total incomes, as opposed to 2.2% in 2006. The incomes earned from entrepreneurial activity in 2007 made up 2.3% of the total incomes, an increase of 1% compared with 2006. A number of 74,064 legal entities submitted income statements in 2007, in contrast to 70,039 in 2006. The income taxes paid by companies last year totaled 1.38 billion lei, while in 2006 – 1.07 billion lei. The income taxes paid by legal entities made up 51% of the total income taxes, as against 49% a year before. The volume of declared fiscal losses rose by 522 million lei on 2006, while the number of companies that worked at a loss increased from 19,000 in 2006 (27%) to 23,200 in 2007 (31%). The private individuals and legal entities together paid 2.71 billion lei income taxes into the budget in 2007, as opposed to 2.2 billion lei in 2006.
