Winrock International, in partnership with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission to Moldova, Gender Centre, Amnesty International, Peace Corps, “Casa Marioarei” and American Bar Association/Central European and Eurasian Law Initiative (ABA/CEELI) announced, on Thursday, November 23, launching activities in Moldova within the international campaign “16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence”. Project director of Winrock International in Moldova, David Blood, mentioned that gender-based violence in the R. of Moldova, as well as in many other countries is a problem too rarely recognized in public. The campaign has the aim of stimulating debates on the topic, which many persons avoid to touch. Via an integrated program, including trainings, round tables and media events, the campaign will increase public awareness about the phenomenon of violence against women and its consequences and will promote public and private dialogue about methods in eliminating all forms of violence against women. The activity has the aim of reducing trafficking in human beings in Moldova by creating opportunities for a better future for women aged from 16 to 25, through integrated programs oriented on the development of economic opportunities and prevention of crisis situations, consultancy services and a complex network of assistance services via the intermediary of Regional supporting centers. The “16 days” campaign has been initiated in 1991 by Women's Global Leadership Institute. Winrock Organization participates in this campaign in the R. of Moldova with the financial support of USAID and OSCE Mission to Moldova.
