A number of 158 new infections with COVID-19 were reported in Moldova on May 26. Nineteen of those infected are healthcare workers. The confirmed number of infections thus rose to 7,305, 3,154 of which are active cases, IPN quoted Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu as saying in a press briefing.
According to the minister, 1,118 tests have been done today. The largest numbers of cases were recorded in Chisinau, Cahul and the Transnistrian region. Eighty-two people got cured and were discharged from the hospital. The number of those who recovered now rose to 3,884. Nineteen infected persons are in a very serious state and were put on a ventilator, while 256 are in a serious state.
Viorica Dumbrăveanu informed about two more deaths from COVID-19 in addition to the four cases of death announced in the morning. As many as 267 persons lost the battle with the disease so far.
At the temporary placement center for adults with mental disabilities of Bădiceni, Soroca, where a COVID-19 outbreak was reported, 122 beneficiaries contracted the virus and 38 of them were hospitalized. Seventy-four infections were recorded at the placement center for persons with disabilities of Cocieri. Of these, 14 persons are being treated at the hospital, while 60 already recovered.
The minister also said that the national healthcare system received assistance in the form of protective equipment and disinfectants from Bulgaria and Qatar.
