A criminal group specializing in organizing illegal migration using false identity documents has been dismantled by the Border Police. The network, led by a Ukrainian citizen, facilitated illegal border crossings between Moldova and Ukraine using forged Romanian documents, IPN reports.

According to authorities, migrants paid up to $15,000, with the money being collected in Ukraine. The group operated at border crossing points, where migrants presented falsified documents to exit Ukraine and enter Moldova.

Two weeks ago, on February 16, a Ukrainian man was thoroughly checked at the "Otaci" checkpoint. In addition to his Ukrainian documents, he possessed a Romanian passport with signs of forgery, which had been previously used to cross the Ukrainian border. During the inspection, it was established that the man had paid $15,000 to enter Moldova illegally.

During the investigation, authorities identified individuals involved in the group's illegal activities. A driver transporting the migrants was detained. Additionally, the network's organizer, a 45-year-old Ukrainian citizen from Odesa, was arrested for 30 days.

The investigation is ongoing to identify all those involved.

According to the law, any person is presumed innocent until a final court decision is rendered.
