A policeman has been fined 150 thousand lei for influence peddling. In addition to the fine, he was also deprived of the right to occupy the position of investigating officer in the MIA institutions for a period of three years.
The court also ordered the special confiscation, for the benefit of the state, of more than 115,000 lei - the value of the money derived from the offense, IPN reports.
The anti-corruption prosecutor's office notes that evidence has been gathered that in November-December 2019, the defendant demanded and received from a citizen €6,000. In exchange for the money, he said that he could influence the prosecutor to adopt a favorable decision in a criminal case in which the person was suspected of illegal drug trafficking.
The trial lasted almost four years. The defendant pleaded not guilty. The sentence is subject to appeal to the Court of Appeal Center.
