A former serviceman on contract, inspector of the border guards picket “Giurgiulesti”, was sentenced to 15 years in jail for murdering a co-villager two years ago, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
The incident happened on the night of March 21, 2012. The culprit was off duty in Giurgiulesti village of Cahul district. Being under the influence, he started to quarrel with a co-villager and then stabbed him for several times with a hunter’s knife. The man died. In order to hide the offense, the serviceman took the body into a precipice on the outskirts of the village and threw the knife in the Prut River. In the evening of next day, the body was found by a shepherd, who informed the police.
The court also ordered that the culprit pay 1 million lei to the successor of the killed man. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
