Over a hundred preschool education institutions in Chisinau and the suburban settlements of Chisinau municipality will temporarily close their doors for a period of two weeks to one month. The announcement was made by the deputy head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sports of Chisinau, Andrei Pavaloi, who said that most of the kindergartens will close in July due to the low attendance rate. The children who will not go on vacation will be able to attend other kindergartens in the neighborhood, IPN reports.
“Following consultations with parents and surveys conducted in early education institutions, we determined that during June - August 2024, 117 institutions will temporarily close for a period of two weeks to one month. 98 of the institutions are from the city, while 19 are from the suburban settlements,” Andrei Pavaloi told a meeting at the City Hall.
He explained that the staff employed in the given institutions are to go on annual leave. The number of children attending kindergarten during this period also decreases significantly. In the absence of children, current and cosmetic repair works will be carried out in institutions. If there are two-three institutions nearby, they close one after another, not all at once, so that the parents who do not go on vacation can take their children to another institution than the one that closed.
In Chisinau there are 170 preschool education institutions that are attended by over 38,000 children.
