Over 10,000 Moldovan citizens attended a protest meeting on Sunday, April 12, on the Great National Assembly Square in Chisinau, organized by the Liberal Party (PL), the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and Our Moldova Alliance (AMN.) The participants adopted a resolution asking the Communist government to stop the terror, to observe the human rights an called on the Moldovan citizens not to let themselves intimidated and to be firm in defending the democratic and European values, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The speakers condemned the government's oppressive actions, arresting and ill-treating youths after the April 7 events. They also said the April 5 vote was rigged, and its results – falsified. The leaders of those three parties were unanimous in assessing the events and blamed the Voronin regime for the crimes against its own people. Mihai Ghimpu, Vlad Filat and Serafim Urecheanu committed to conduct to an end the investigation of the electoral violations and to inform the domestic and international public opinion. The families of the arrested, ill-treated and missing were called on to address the three parties for assistance.
The attendees asked the Government to immediately stop the terror actions against the children and youths, to free all the arrested and to probe them in freedom, in order to protect the searched people from torture. The protesters also asked to publicize the name of the arrested, the reasons, the places they are held in, to insure the access of barristers, of parents, media, non-governmental organizations and international organizations to the detainees. They demand to halt the persecutions against media and to lift the informational blockade instituted by the Communist authorities. They also ask to allow the opposition parties to have access to the public television and radio, and President Vladimir Voronin to publicly apologize to the teachers he had severely insulted.
The protesters also ask the opposition parties to address the European Union, the Council of Europe, the USA to urgently intervene to stop the illegal arrests, batteries, torture and all the abuses committed by the Communist rule against youths, journalists, its own citizens. The demonstrators call on the Moldovan citizens not to let themselves intimidated by the Communist terror, to stay firm in defending their rights, to protest peacefully and in a civilized manner, with full trust in the victory of the democratic and European values.
