After all the 305 voting reports were processed, the National Alternative Movement’s candidate is shown to be the winner of the mayoral election in Chisinau. According to the preliminary data presented by the Central Election Commission, the MAN leader gained 50.62% of the vote, IPN reports.
The Party of Action and Solidarity’s candidate Lilian Carp ranked second with 28.23% of the ballot.
Under the Electoral Code, a candidate for mayor is considered elected if this obtains more than half of the valid votes cast.
After all the votes were counted, the seats on the Chisinau Municipal Council were distributed as follows: MAN – 33.10%, PAS – 32.88%, PSRM – 9.64%, PCRM – 4.46%, Revival Party – 2.64%, PPDA – 2.55%. The other parties obtained less than 2% of the poll.
The council elections consist of one round. The seats of councilor to parties and electoral blocs are distributed by successively dividing the number of valid votes cast for each party and bloc by 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. up to the digit that corresponds to the number of seats set for the given electoral constituency.
