A man considered to be the primary suspect in the in the Zubrești forest murder was arrested in Bucharest after two weeks on the run, the Moldovan Police announced, following a notification from their Romanian colleagues.
The fugitive suspect is the son of Ion Stratulat, a former police officer assassinated in 2011, and grandson of police general-turned-politician Nicolae Alexei.
Another person of interest was held earlier, but he has been released from custody.
The victim, a 29-year-old man, was found dead in a forest near Zubrești village, Strășeni district. His body was discovered buried on August 11, a day after his mother reported him missing. He died due to three thoracic gunshot injuries.
The press reported that the victim and the presumed killer had participated together in a house party that lasted for several days. It was held at a Zubresti forest cabin owned by the Stratulat family. The 29-year-old, the son of an influential Rezina farmer, was reportedly among the last to stay at the party, alongside Ion Stratulat’s son and two young women.
