PM Gavrilița says no risk of not having an electricity supplier

There is no risk of not having an electricity supplier, prime minister Natalia Gavrilița told a press conference Wednesday.

She said a tender process is currently underway to select electricity suppliers, with a number of bids on offer, but the results will not be communicated until after the exercise is over.

Meanwhile, the Commission on Emergencies has extended the deadline for submitting bids by two more days until April 28. According to Gavrilița this will allow more time for evaluating the bids and negotiating the best price.

“We have a number of options. First of all, we are talking about negotiations that continue and concern the price of electricity, the duration of the contract, the availability of balanced sources and, then, we have the option to finalize the tender exercise and conclude the contract with the winners. Appropriate decisions will be taken by the Commission on Emergencies”, said Gavrilița.

As for gas supplies, the prime minister said that no response has been received from Gazprom yet, but assured there are alternatives, including the spot market.
