People’s ombudsman calls for peaceful protests

The people’s ombudsman Mihail Cotorobai said the peaceful expression of the viewpoint on particular subjects and the events with impact for the general public represent a proof of the maturity of a democratic society. He calls on the authorities and representatives of political parties to ensure the exercise of the freedom to assembly in a peaceful way, without using violence, showing thus respect and tolerance of any human being, regardless of the criteria that make them different or their political views, IPN reports.

In a press release, the ombudsman calls on all the participants in the protests mounted near the Parliament Building to protest peacefully and prevent the degeneration of the protests into violence as this would endanger public order, the corporal integrity and life of persons and the integrity of goods.

The people’s ombudsman also calls upon the representatives of the police to maintain public order and to strictly obey the legislation on protests and on the use of special means.
