The European Social Democratic Party (PSDE) is the successor of the Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM). The party has a new administration and a new symbol, modified Statutes and Program, says a message posted on www.pdm.md after the party’s extraordinary congress held on November 20.
Among the invitees at the congress were the leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) of Romania Marcel Ciolacu, President of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies, deputy head of the PSD Titus Corlăţean, Chairman of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Senate of Romania, MEP Victor Negrescu and other representatives of Romania’s PSD.
At the beginning of the congress, PDM acting chair Monica Babuc presented a progress report on the work done and actions taken to rebuild the party and to transform it into an authentic European social democratic party. She noted that the stance of the founder of the European left will be more credible if the party starts to separate the left from the communist and pro-russian sections and this will help the party to recover politically.
The newly elected chairman of the PSDE Ion Sula thanked his mates for their trust and said that he is determined to strengthen the team and to ensure the PSDE’s return to power so as to contribute to the country’s sustainable development and the wellbeing of the citizens.
“In the PSDE team, we have valuable people with experience who know how to manage the country from the local, district and central levels. We are the only party that can provide solutions to the people’s problems. The citizens of the Republic of Moldova need us today as we can bring welfare to the Republic of Moldova and to each citizen,” stated Ion Sula.
The founder of the PDM Dumitru Diacov wrote on Facebook that he turned down the proposal to join the new party and to be a member of the National Council of the PSDE. “I informed the delegates to the congress that I will not join any political party in the future. I will further hold the post of president of the Foundation for Democracy and Progress and will try to lend a hand to growing the future political activists, to strengthening the political center and authentic democracy in the Republic of Moldova...” posted Dumitru Diacov.
