In the eastern districts of Moldova, including Tiraspol, the critical human rights situation persists. The problem was signaled by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian in a meeting with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process Thomas Mayr-Harting, IPN reports.

“Tiraspol’s approach to criminally punish the petitioners or residents of the region who notify the responsible authorities of the Republic of Moldova of the abuses to which they are subject in the region is unacceptable and inadmissible in light of the international law standards,” stated Oleg Serebrian.

According to him, the lack of a constructive dialogue with the authorities in Transnistria generates problems in the coordinated and rational use of the water resources of the Nistru River. “While the Ukrainian partners are honoring their contractual obligations concerning control over the water flow in the river, the Dubăsari hydroelectric dam causes problems that negatively influence the level of waster downstream,” the official was quoted as saying in a press release of the Reintegration Policies Bureau.

Also, Oleg Serebrian noted that Tiraspol extended the access of the farmers from Dubăsari district to their farmland only until August 31. But the farmers need to be sure that the access to their land is permanent and unconditional, in accordance with the commitments undertaken by the Protocol Decision of November 25, 2017.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined the Moldovan authorities’ readiness to settle the Transnistrian conflict in a peaceful way through different discussion platforms. He called on Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting to help the Republic of Moldova to solve the problems existing in the region.
