NBM transmits commemorative coin to Royal House of Romania

The National Bank of Moldova offered a silver coin titled “100 years of the crowning of King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria as sovereigns of Greater Romania” to the Royal House of Romania. This was transmitted to Romania’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Cristian-Leon Țurcanu by NBM governor Octavian Armașu, IPN reports.

In a meeting, the governor passed on the commemorative coin accompanied by a letter addressed to her Majesty Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania.

“I express my profound appreciation of Romania’s efforts to support the Republic of Moldova in all its aspirations, particularly on its European path. A separate role is played by the Royal House that remains a symbol of the unity of the Romanian nation and an important advocate of the Republic of Moldova in Europe and the world. I appreciate the Royal House’s efforts aimed at stimulating the creation of economic, social and cultural bridges between the two banks of the Prut,” said Octavian Armașu, being quoted in a press release of the NBM.

Through the commemorative coin devoted to 100 years of the crowning of King Ferdinand I and Queen Maria as sovereigns of Greater Romania, an important event in the history of Romania is commemorated. This took place on October 15, 1922 in Alba Iulia – the last symbolic act of the union of all the Romanians.

The commemorative coin was put into circulation on December 23, 2022 as legal tender and for numismatic purposes, in a print run of 300 copies. This supplements the series “Historic Events” of the National Bank of Moldova.
