The men’s national basketball squad of Moldova lost the first two matches of the international tournament “Cup of the Mayor” taking place in Tbilisi, IPN reports.

The team trained by Vladimir Poleah was defeated by Georgia 56-108 and Belarus 38-60. The two matches involved Eugen Melnic, Nicolae Coputerco, Emil Ostafeiciuc, Vladimir Prishchepnyi and Yevgeny Tkachenko. In the last game, scheduled for this evening, Moldova meets the UK. If it scores a victory, it will rank third.

“We haven’t played against such powerful opponents until now. Our participation in this tournament is a great plus,” the coach of the national squad Vladimir Poleah told a news conference.

The trophy of the tournament in Tbilisi will be disputed by Georgia and Belarus.
