Moldova’s mildest winter in 120 years

The average air temperature of in the first two winter months – December and January – constituted 2.1 ºС in Briceni and 3.6 ºС in Chisinau, by 4.5-5.5 ºС higher than the usual temperature for this period. Such values are registered for the first time in all the period of instrumental observations, the State Hydrometeorological Service (SHS) announces. According to SHS, the average air temperature in Moldova in January has for the first time varied between 2.6 ºС (Briceni) and 4.2 ºС (Bravicea), 6.0-7.5 ºС higher than the normal temperature. The meteorologists announce that on January 21 it was registered an absolute record for this period – 16 ºС. SHS has been making instrumental observations since 1886.
