Moldova took over the presidency of the GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development by rotation and will hold it this year. The program of activities that will be organized by the country was discussed in a meeting of Deputy Speaker Oleg Bodrug and GUAM Secretary General Valery Chechelashvili, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from Parliament.
Oleg Bodrug proposed that regional partners should be invited to the activities organized within GUAM. “We will make concerted effort for the Moldovan presidency of the GUAM to be a successful one, with definite results for the people of all the GUAM member states,” he stated.
Valery Chechelashvili welcomed the progress made by Moldova in coming closer to the EU and voiced hope that in 2014 the Moldovan people will witness the abolition of the visa regime and the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. A meeting of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly will take place in autumn. The standing committees will hold meetings by then.
