Students and teachers who teach the optional course “Media Education” are encouraged to take part in school and out-of-school activities to promote the media culture and critical consumption of information within the third Media Education Week that will take place during October 19-25. In the course of this week, the national schools will stage poster contests, photo exhibitions, debates or workshops where there will be raised media education subjects, IPN reports.
According to the agenda of the event that is organized by the Independent Journalism Center, a meeting with teachers who teach this optional course will be held online as part of a follow-up activity on October 21.
On October 22, the Independent Journalism Center will announce the results of the first stage of the contest “Media education a priority in my school” that was held at schools where “Media Education” is taught. There will be chosen 12 schools that will stage media education activities until the end of the 2020-2021 school year. Three winning institutions will get by an interactive whiteboard.
Also on October 22, students of the Technical University of Moldova will be invited to an online media education workshop with journalist Diana Răileanu entitled “For healthy thinking, consume daily news from at least two press institutions”.
On the occasion of the event, the Independent Journalism Center announced two competitions – a poster and photo contest “I in the world of the media” for first-fourth graders and a video contest entitled “Misinformation in times of pandemic” for fifth- twelfth graders. The works can be sent until October 25 to the email address info@ijc.md.
The Media Education Week is organized by the Independent Journalism Center in the framework of the project “Improving media education skills in the Republic of Moldova” that is implemented with support from Deutsche Welle Akademie. The Global Media and Information Literacy Week is held under the aegis of UNESCO.
