Moldova is facing a drastic energy crisis, with extraordinary inflation that exceeds 30%, and such situations negatively influence the standard of living of Moldovans and the economic environment, stated Maia Sandu during the third international donors’ conference for Moldova, which took place on Monday in Paris. The Moldovan president expressed her gratitude to the participants for their solidarity and concrete support.
“We are grateful for this solidarity and thank you for your pledges of support. Thanks to your support, the Government was able to maintain peace, to keep Moldova on the path to joining the European Union, and also to respond to energy and economic challenges”, declared Sandu.
The president said that Moldova is bracing for a hard winter with multiple challenges. As if all these crises were not enough, she went on, criminal groups are working to destabilize Moldova. “The attacks are part of a hybrid warfare that we are fighting. Such groups pay individuals to participate in anti-government demonstrations. These hostile actions, which are financed directly from the Russian Federation, are a revenge for the fact that we are in solidarity with the European Union and with Ukraine”, said Maia Sandu.
She added that Moldova chooses democracy, peace, freedom, the European Union and the fight against corruption. Moldovan society is solid, but there are still weak institutions. “I want to thank the president of the French Republic and his team for organizing this support platform for the Republic of Moldova. This support helps us address the challenges. I also want to thank Germany, the French and German foreign ministers, for this involvement, together with the Republic of Moldova”, added the Moldovan president.
The first donors’ conference took place in Berlin in April, and the second in Bucharest in July. A total of €600 million was raised for assistance. The next such meeting will take place next year in Chisinau.
