The approval of the opening of accession negotiations for Ukraine and Moldova, as the European Commission proposed, is a historic result and is a very important step for the two states, said the Presdient of Romania Klaus Iohannis. The Romanian official expressed his optimism that things will go well further. According to him, both Moldova and Ukraine managed to achieve remarkable progress in a record period of time, which was seen and honored by the European Council, IPN reports.
Klaus Iohannis said that the discussions in the Council were difficult, amicable, strategic and the message for Moldova is that Romania supports it.
He noted that both the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine worked very hard and managed to achieve remarkable progress in a record period of time, and this progress was seen and honored by the European Council. The speed should be probably increased now for these negotiations to start well and to bring a result, which is integration into the EU. Moldova will enjoy Romania’s full support in this regard.
Romania will further play an important role in the negotiation process. On the one hand, Romania’s ambition is that Moldova should succeed. On the other hand, it has been long involved in institutional assistance, counseling and tackling of reforms. “Romania will surely continue to show in Brussels how well the Republic of Moldova performs,” stated Klaus Iohannis.
