John McCain, Marian Lupu agree to intensify dialogue

The United States will continue to support the European integration objectives and democratic reforms in Moldova and is ready to provide technical and financial assistance in continuation, U.S. Senator John McCain said in a meeting with Moldova’s Acting President Marian Lupu, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the presidential press office.
John McCain said he has confidence in the Moldovan authorities, who pledged to promote democratic reforms and economic growth. The U.S. will continue to support the Alliance for European Integration’s efforts aimed at identifying a viable mechanism and peaceful solution for reunifying Moldova.
Marian Lupu approved of the assistance provided by the U.S. through a number of programs that contribute to ensuring the progress and economic development in Moldova. He said that they agreed to intensify dialogue, including at parliamentary level.
The U.S. senator will transmit Moldovan Acting President’s request to establish a communication mechanism between parliamentary commissions and to create groups of Moldova’s friends within the U.S. legislature so that Moldova is visible in the political agenda of the partners. Marian Lupu also said that he would like the dialogue between Moldova and the U.S. in the Transnistrian conflict settlement issue to become stronger.
The officials discussed the priorities of the Moldovan authorities. According to Marian Lupu, the objectives include statehood consolidation, democratization and improvement of economic efficiency, European integration and the country’s territorial integrity. The interlocutors also conferred on the opportunities of developing and strengthening the relations between Washington and Chisinau.
The meeting was attended by the leaders of the parliamentary groups of the parties that formed the Alliance for European Integration.
