After more than a 70-year break, the Metropolitan Seat of Basarabia might be visited by the Bishop of the Romanian Church if Christians from Moldova will send an invitation to the Bishop. An appeal in this respect was made by the Metropolitan Seat to its parishioners. According to sources from the Metropolitan Seat, a significant part of its parishes and communities has already expressed willingness to invite the Bishop. The visit is planned to be merely canonical, dedicated only to believers and priesthood, excepting political authorities. It is expected that the guest will ask the opinion of the Metropolitan Seat, clergy and believers about the dialogue with the Russian Bishopry on the issue of canonical jurisdiction in Moldova. His Beatitude Patriarch Teoctist Arapasu of Romania is 92, and was born in Botosani County near the Prut River. The Metropolitan Seat of Basarabia is one of the 6 Romanian Episcopal Seats outside Romania and the only diocese not visited by the Head of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
