Grain harvest to end in two weeks
The grain crops have been gathered in from one third of the sowed fields. The Agriculture Ministry says that the harvest will close in 15 days, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The barley was 75% harvested, while the peas - 76%. The reaping of wheat in the northern districts has only started. 15% of the wheat has been collected so far.
The quality of the grain is higher than last year, Minister of Agriculture Anatolie Gorodenco said at a meeting of the Government on Monday. The productivity is 25 quintals per hectare. The food wheat makes up 40%, while the fodder wheat – 60%.
The productivity of corn is projected to be 3.5 tonnes per hectare, while of sunflower – 2 tonnes per hectare.
The minister said that the production of meat has grown this year. Only 15,000-20,000 tonnes of meat of the 120,000 tonnes needed by Moldova will be imported.
“The weather conditions in April-May affected the productivity, but the favorable weather afterward makes us hope that the crop of vegetables and fruit will be better than we forecast at the start of the year,” the minister said. The vegetable harvest will be minimum 400,000 tonnes, not 380,000 tonnes as expected, while the fruit crop – 410,000 tonnes, as against 400,000 planned, the official also said.
