FX forecast for May 13
The National Bank continued yesterday, May 12, to buy foreign currency from commercial banks, yet not all of them went for the offer, which means that the liquidity of those banks is now adequate, PhD Sveatoslav Mihalache, director of the portal Financial Brains, has told Info-Prim Neo.
On the interbank market the US dollar traded yesterday at 1.2400 – 1.2650 lei. Today at the exchange facilities the rates for the dollar will be as follows: 11.15 – 11.18 lei (bid) and 11.26 – 11.29 (ask).
Yesterday on the international market the euro touched, but not exceeded, the $1.3707 mark, and then dropped to $1.3580. According to Mihalache, the fact that the $1.37 mark hasn't been exceeded indicates to a potential decrease in the value of the euro. This tendency will be felt soon on the domestic market, too.
Today, at an official rate of 15.36 lei, the exchange facilities will buy euros for 15.13 – 15.20 lei and will sell at 15.40 – 15.45 lei. But due to its predicted downward trend the sell rate for the euro will most likely return to 14.90 – 14.95 lei, while the buy rate to 15.05 – 15.10 lei.
