Parasites of different types were detected in the abdominal cavity and on the trunk of fish after several batches of frozen fish imported into Moldova in the summer and autumn of this year were analyzed .
Law enforcement officers searched 11 fish importers, who did not comply with importing and marketing norms, which led to high health risks for consumers.
According to a police press release, samples of herring, trunk hake and mackerel from frozen fish lots weighing over 300 thousand kg were sent for examination abroad. The goods were imported into the country through the Criva, Otaci and Tudora crossing points, from France, the Faroe Islands, Lithuania, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Spain.
Additionally, as a result of the searches, law enforcement officers seized goods without origin documents, over 100 thousand lei undeclared money, documents, accounting documents, agendas, procurement registers and electronic devices for information storing. An office that held a larger quantity of probative material was sealed. No one was detained at this stage of the investigation.
A criminal investigation was commenced after the government made a referral.
