Activist Fiodor Ghelici, who is accused of trafficking in persons, seeks political asylum in Russia, Romania, Germany, the U.S. and Ukraine. In a news conference at IPN, his sons announced that Fiodor Ghelici renounces the Moldovan nationality. He took such a decision after he found out that the members of his family may also be arrested.

The activist’s son Serghei Ghelici read a number of appeals written by his father in the remand center. Fiodor Ghelici calls on President Nicolae Timofti to order an objective inquiry into his case. According to the activist, he was arrested by a political order as he tried to reveal acts of corruption committed by senior officials through the agency of the public organization “Moldova mea” that he heads.

Fiodor Ghelici said he knew that he would be arrested. Twenty armed people searched his house and took his documents. He was arrested without being charged. “Help me. I do not believe in the objectivity of the Moldovan legal system. I do not want to die in jail because of political orders,” Fiodor Ghelici says in one of his appeals to international organizations.

Fiodor Ghelici believes that his arrest was orchestrated by the leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat. He says he collected evidence showing that Filat stole European grants. “My life is in danger. If I die, please blame the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat,” wrote Fiodor Ghelici.

The chairman of “Moldova mea” Fiodor Ghelici was arrested on October 11 on suspicion of trafficking in persons. He was put under arrest for 72 hours, but the warrant for his arrest was later extended for 30 days.
