The number of additional days that women must work to earn the same amount as men is 39, according to calculations from the previous year. On February 27, Moldova marks Equal Pay Day to emphasize the importance of fair remuneration: “equal pay for equal work and work of equal value”, IPN reports.
According to a study released in November 2024, women earn at least 15.5% less than men. The gender pay gap continues to widen in Moldova, with women losing an average of nearly 26,000 lei annually due to this inequality.
The Partnership for Development Center, in collaboration with UN Women Moldova and with financial support from Sweden and the Swiss Cooperation Office, recently launched the awareness campaign “Zero Difference, 100% Transparency.” The initiative aims to reduce the pay gap between women and men and is part of efforts to support the Gender Equality Acceleration Program in Moldova for 2023-2026, promoted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection.
The campaign has been running online until today, February 27, when Equal Pay Day is observed.
In the context of Equal Pay Day, UN Women, in partnership with the Partnership for Development Center (CPD) and HR Portal, with financial support from Sweden and the Swiss Cooperation Office, is organizing the event “How Do We Initiate Change for Fair Remuneration?”.
During the event, the latest statistical data on gender pay gaps in Moldova will be presented, along with national and European legislative changes aimed at enhancing pay transparency and ensuring the principle of “equal pay for equal work and work of equal value”.
The event will include a presentation session discussing key trends in wage disparities and legislative responsibilities regarding pay equity (from 9:30 to 11:15). In the second part of the event, an informative workshop will be held for HR professionals and company representatives, providing tools and best practices for effectively implementing and monitoring the principle of equal pay within organizations (from 11:35 to 16:20). Participation will be available both in person and online.
