Dumitru Alaiba: If I had been Russia’s agent at Chisinau City Hall, I would also have been instructed to intensify panic

The possibility of a halt in water supply in the municipality of Chisinau can be part of a scenario to cause panic in society, considers Minister of Economy Dumitru Alaiba. According to him, the scandal around Apă-Canal was created artificially by the mayor of Chisinau in order to increase dissatisfaction among the citizens. The minister expressed his skepticism about the pro-European aspirations of the mayor of the capital city, saying that the National Alliterative Movement is a Trojan Horse of Russia in Moldova, IPN reports.

On Thursday, Premier Energy threatened S.A. Apă-Canal Chișinău with disconnection from the power supply over debts totaling 73.2 million lei. Later, the power supply decided to put off the disconnection until February 1. The minister of economy believes mayor Ion Ceban orchestrates the whole scandal in order to increase the population’s level of dissatisfaction.

“If I had been an agent of Russia at the Chisinau Citi Hall, I would probably also have been instructed to intensify dissatisfaction and panic in society by all the available administrative means, not necessarily by using violent methods. The developments are the responsibility of the municipal authorities and should be assumed by those for whom the people voted. We know that Ion Ceban was mentioned in the most direct way by the U.S. Department of State. His only reaction was to seek evidence. This is an inappropriate reaction as such institutions do not apply such methods. If you are mentioned by the U.S. Department of State, it means there are reasons for doing so,” Dumitru Alaiba stated in the program “Shadow Cabinet” on JurnalTV channel.

Moreover, Alaiba is convinced that Ion Ceban remained a pro-Russian politician who switched over to pro-European rhetoric because he realized that the Moldovan citizens no longer resonate with Moscow’s policy.

“It is logical for Russia’s next project in Chisinau to be a pseudo-European party as we see polls and see how the people think and feel. We see increasing support for the European course. Therefore, a Trojan Horse is needed. I’m fully confident that the citizens are sufficiently wise to realize who is really pro-European and who struggled against the Association Agreement, including by protests. Our European course didn’t start yesterday and at each stage there were people who opposed this course. The mayor of Chisinau was among those people,” noted the Minister of Economy.

On January 17, the party National Alliterative Movement led by Ion Ceban was officially registered with the Public Services Agency. Earlier, the mayor of Chisinau said the new party’s doctrine is a European social-democratic one.
