Dorin Chirtoaca: We borrowed money from banks so as to be able to pay salaries

Mayor of Chisinau municipality Dorin Chirtoaca admits that they took out loans from banks so as to be able to pay salaries to employees. The issue was developed in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on Radio Moldova station, IPN reports.

“We are forced by the situation to take out banks loans as we must pay salaries and support investment projects. This happens because the Government has an enormous debt to the Chisinau City Hall. It always happened during my mayoralty. The Government is either late or cuts the financial resources that it should allocate to the capital city. I think there are also political reasons behind,” stated Chirtoaca.

The mayor said the loans will be repaid when the central public administration honors its obligations to the Chisinau City Hall, but the interest is paid with money from the local budget. “We do not have problems with the banks. We are credible partners and can always get a loan. We cannot leave the people without salaries. Soon we must pay salaries to teachers too. If we hadn’t taken out loans, we wouldn’t have assembled trolleybuses, repaired roads and built parking lots,” he stated.

Dorin Chirtoaca enumerated a number of results achieved in 2015. “We assembled 20 trolleybuses and will assemble another 20 next year. We built up over 4,000 parking lots in courts and lit the street to the airport. The most important accomplishment is that we managed to ensure stability in the capital city in conditions of political instability,” he said.
