District schools 80% ready for new academic year

The district preuniversity education institutions are 80% ready for the new school year. In a working meeting involving district education division heads and representatives of local authorities, Minister of Education Leonid Bujor said he is satisfied with the results, but considers that the real situation is different from the one described by the local public authorities, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the information collected in districts, 1,460 of the 1,490 schools and kindergartens are ready for the 2010-2011 academic year. The rest of the schools will finish the repair works next week. The preuniversity education institutions in 12 districts, including Anenii Noi, Cantemir, Cahul, Telenesti, Criuleni, Calarasi, Sangera, and Soldanesti, are 80% ready, in another 14 districts – are 60-70% ready, while in Balti, Nisporeni and Hancesti – are 50% ready. Leonid Bujor expressed his concern about the situation in these districts and instructed that the current repair works there by completed by August 20, while the extensive ones – by October 1. Valentin Crudu, the head of the preschool, primary and general education division, said 66 million lei has been allocated from the state budget for repairs this year. He said the preparations for the new school year include not only repair works, but also provision of textbooks, organization of proper alimentation and filling of vacancies. Leonid Bujor thanked the local authorities for the efforts they made to prepare the education institutions for the new school year and urged those who lag behind to marshal forces.
