The currency exchange facilities will be supervised by real-time video monitoring systems while they will be working. The recordings will be kept in a digital form for at least 15 calendar days. This is provided in a bill to amend the law on the National Bank of Moldova (NBM) and the law on currency regulation that was given a first reading by the MPs, IPN reports.

Furthermore, the currency exchange facilities will be obliged to register each operation to exchange currency with private individuals when this is performed in the document forms set by the NBM. The facilities should make sure there is no divergence between the value of registered operations and the balance of the working capital.

When exchanging a sum larger than €500, the persons will need to present an ID.

The fine imposed on currency exchange facilities or hotels that break the currency legislation is raised from 25,000 to 100,000 lei.

The bill also increases the period during which the NBM can take a decision about the licensing of currency exchange facilities and hotels from 15 to 30 days, given the introduced additional licensing requirements.

To become law, the bill needs to be adopted in the second reading, to be published in the Official Gazette and to be promulgated by the Head of State.
