The construction works of the Central Olympic stadium in Chisinau will begin in February. Interim mayor of the municipality Veaceslav Iordan informed at a Government session that, in compliance with the approved graphic plan, geodesy and topography works have been operated till present, and the zonal urban plan has been worked out. Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev requested the establishment of a strict control on the implementation of this plan, in order to put into operation this complex within the established terms. After the Designing Institute “Chisinau-Proiect” works out the project documents, within the perimeter of Tudor Vladimirescu - Calea Orheiului – Bolbocica streets, demolition works are to start. Earlier, municipal councillors insisted that the investor should support all the expenses for the demolitions or evacuations from the zone of the future building site. However, according to recent statements from local authorities, the expenses are to be borne by the municipality. Former interim mayor Vasile Ursu said earlier that the municipality will have to cover expenses of more than MDL 10 mln in this regard. Individuals and entities, which hold leased plots, will receive money compensations or other plots for use. It is expected that the construction works of the future stadium –sports complex, which would have a capacity of at least 30,000 seats, will last for three years. International competitions and even a potential Olympiad could be held on the Central Stadium. The investor, foreign capital enterprise “Kilogrin”, designated by the Government in May for building the Central Stadium, will have the right to property for the built venue. The company is to recover its investments from selling other facilities, which will be built in this zone. The City Hall intended to demolish the entire zone near the Circus, especially one-story houses, and to build a model district in this region.
