Chisinau Central Market could be enlarged
The Chisinau Central Market will still be placed in the central part of the capital. However it will be re-dimensioned with a view to enlarging it. This information was made public on Monday, January 22 by the Chief Architect of the Chisinau Municipality, Nicon Zaporojan, in the context of finishing Chisinau’s General Urban Plan (PUG).
According to Zaporojan, debates on the market’s re-dimensioning have been held in the last week, during the first public hearing of the PUG for the Centru district. Zaporojan mentioned that citizens also proposed the replacement of the Central Bus Station.
Another proposal, which will be taken into consideration by the authorities when finishing PUG, will be the transformation of Mitropolit Varlaam or 31 August streets into walkways.
At the same time, Nicon Zaporojan mentioned that authorities will examine, at the citizens’ proposal within public examinations organised last week in the Botanica district, the possibility of broadening Muncesti Street up to 70 meter wide.
The strategy committee and persons involved in working out the draft of the capital’s PUG are organising 4 public hearings in Chisinau in the period from January 17 to January 26. Public consultations upon the Plan of the arrangement of the municipality’s territory with the participation of the mayors from those 18 suburban mayoralties will be held starting February 6.
Public hearings are organised with the aim of establishing a consensus concerning the vision, the objectives, policies, development programmes and projects. At the end of public consultations, the two documents are to be debated within the special commissions of the Chisinau Municipal Council and approved by councillors. Once approved, PUG will become the official document regulating the fields of urban planning and territory arrangement.
PUG envisages working out 160 investments projects. The City Hal has already announced several contests for drafting zone urban plans (development concepts) of the Chisinau’s territory. Contests are being held in the period from December 27 to March 27. Zone plans provide for the construction of modern type living blocks. Plots will be allocated only after the approval of the PUG.
