Best Moldovan footballer of 2013 says national team has chances to qualify for EURO 2016

The best Moldovan footballer of 2013 Alexandru Gatcan, who was conferred the title on December 15, has told IPN that the national football squad of Moldova has good chances to qualify for the 2016 European Championship.

Alexandru Gatcan, 29, has won the title for the first time, surpassing Alexandru Epureanu and Artur Ionita. “I regret that I couldn’t attend the award ceremony. This year was a successful one for me, both as part of the national team and as part of FC Rostov. I assure you that next year I will make every effort to play better. I believe in the national team as we had good games with Montenegro and Poland the last preliminaries,” said Gatcan, who is vacationing with his family in Dubai.

The national football team’s coach Ion Caras was named the Best Coach of the Year. Caras is as optimistic before the preliminaries of the EURO 2016. “I thank everyone. This prize represents the work of many people: players, coaches, officials, the technical staff. The Federation offered us all the possibilities for achieving good results. 2013 was a good year for the national squad,” said the coach after receiving the prize at the National Opera House.

Among the best players in Moldova’s championship are Nicolae Calancea of Zimbru, who became Goalkeeper of the Year, and Alexandru Dedov of the same team, who is Halfback of the Year. From Sheriff, Miral Samardzic was named Fullback of the Year, while Henrique Luvannor – Striker of the Year.

Piotr Stoianov became the Coach of the Year, while Gheorghe Boghiu –Top Scorer. The title of Fair Play Team was conferred again on FC Tiraspol. Alexandru Shevchuk was named the Best Futsal Player, Victor Comlionoc –Best Beach Soccer Player, while Alexandru Sirghi – Best Football-Tennis Player.
