“Attention, the Minibus” Campaign is organised in Moldova
“Attention, the Minibus” campaign is being carried out in Moldova from January 17 to February 17.
Inspector of the traffic security service of the Chisinau Traffic Police Ion Roscovanu told Info-Prim Neo that the campaign has the goal to enhance the road safety, control the passenger transport, and trace legal violations concerning this kind of transport.
The source says that the police officers will pay special attention to the phenomenon of carrying passengers without handing them tickets, breaking of financial discipline, activity performed without the respective category, licence or authorisation for route, overload of the means of transport, driving under the influence, as well as the use of reequipped means of transport without the respective authorisations, or of those that did not pass the vehicle inspection.
According to the statistics of the Chisinau Traffic Police, in 2006, there were registered 169 road accidents with minibuses involved. Out of the total number, 93 accidents resulted in 4 casualties and 148 injured. All the accidents with fatalities have occurred because of the drivers. The minibus drivers are to blame for the occurrence of 66 accidents, which injured 77 persons.
