Moldovan track and field athletes Andrian Mardare and Maxim Răileanu became champions at the Balkan Athletics Championships which took place over the weekend in the Romanian city of Cluj.
Andrian Mardare emerged victorious in the javelin throw competition with a best result of 83.60 meters, which also earned him the distinction of the Championships’ best athlete.
In the 5000 meters competition, Maxim Răileanu won the gold medal with a result of 14:09.23.
Siblings Serghei Marghiev and Zalina Petrivskaya won the bronze in the hammer throw competition. The Moldovan women’s relay team composed of Diana Podoleanu, Anastasia Senchiv, Tatiana Contrebut and Iuliana Dovganici also came in third place in the 4x100 race.
