The allowance provided for the birth of children will be increased from MDL 800 to MDL 1000. The increases will come into effect on January 1 2007. Such a decision has been made by the Cabinet on Wednesday, February 14. Minister of Social Protection, Family and Child Galina Balmoş motivated this decision by the need to support families when giving birth to a child. As she states, both the insured and uninsured persons will receive the allowance of MDL 1000. As estimations show, the sum necessary to increase the quantum of the unique allowance for the child birth in 2007 is of about MDL 7.4 mln. About MDL 2.2 mln have been planned in the state social insurance Budget in order to pay allowances to the insured persons, while about MDL 5 mln will be allocated for the uninsured persons. Minister recognises that the allowance for the child birth is a modest one, but it represents the real possibilities of the state social insurance Budget. At the same time, as she says, these increases are just the first step as concerns the support provided to the families with children. A National Strategy that will encourage the young families and mothers giving birth to a child is to be approved in the near future.
