A 23-year-old young man from Chisinau is under criminal investigation for involvement in several cases of telephone fraud, through which he allegedly illegally obtained over 200 thousand lei, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n
According to the General Inspectorate of Police, the suspect allegedly acted in concert with other members of an organized criminal group. They would contact individuals from various regions of the country by phone and, under false pretenses, persuade them to disclose their bank details and unique security codes received via SMS. Subsequently, the suspects would access the victims’ bank accounts and transfer the money to accounts controlled by the network.<\/p>\n\n
According to the investigation, a portion of the embezzled funds would have been used to purchase personal goods, while the rest was directed towards accomplices.<\/p>\n\n
The young man was identified and detained by the officers of the Buiucani Police Department, in collaboration with the prosecutors. If found guilty, the swindler risks up to five years in prison, according to the Penal Code.<\/p>\n\n
